Basic numeracy test: free practice

A basic numeracy test (sometimes called a calculation test) checks everyday maths without a table to read first: sums, percentages and fractions of amounts, change from a payment, times, units and number sequences. It rewards speed and accuracy more than method.

Quick test

A fresh set of questions every time.

Work each one out and pick the answer. Rough paper helps. Have some rough paper (no calculator, if you want the full workout) ready.

Tips for the real one

  • Estimate first: if the answer should be about 300, an option of 3,000 is a slip.
  • Times run in 60s, not 100s: 9:45 plus 30 minutes is 10:15.
  • For a percentage of an amount, find 10% or 1% first and build from there.

Who uses them

Employers use them for apprenticeships where the job needs them, often alongside other tests. Real ones are usually longer, and many are timed. The firm’s invite tells you which test it uses, and how long you get.

These questions are Apprenza’s own, written in the same style. They aren’t any employer’s or test provider’s real questions.
